“Why!?”
Hannah screams in a voice that isn’t her own. Her anger had only grown in her hunt for Pieter, finding him reading against a tree, socks and shoes placed neatly beside him, his shirt open revealing the faint impression of dark hairs forming on his chest. The image of relaxation, but no more. An energy surges through her body as she approaches. An entity of pure pain and rage pours hatred into the earth with every step closer. He flinches at the ferocity of her hand coming towards his face. In her white-knuckled grip before his eyes is a handwritten letter, the sound of it crumpling reveals a slight tremor, but her intensity is unwavering.
“You fuck- you lying fucking- you promised me!” Flecks of spittle rain down on Pieter. He looks up at her bewildered, his shirt fallen unceremoniously open, the veneer of perfection cracking at the edges.
“I didn’t! I don’t- calmmmffhhphh-” His protests are stilled as the letter is thrust into his open mouth, followed by the quiet thuds of Hannah slamming her first against the tree above his head, once, twice-
“Fuck!” She reaches past him and grabs his left shoe, turning and launching it into the river, his mustard sock trailing limply behind it into the reeds.
“No! Why!?” He dashes past her and stops at the water’s edge, snatching at his sock and shaking at his shirt to remove it.
Hannah sinks to her haunches, blood running down her fingers into the mud, watching on while Pieter and his shoe both drift away from her.
